Hey guys I know this has been asked before but I couldn't find it.
How much do you cut off the inside of the helix to get the secondary clutch to open up more?

I don't believe you will gain anything. If your SRX or Viper center to center distances are setup correct I am quite certain your primary will close completely and bottom out before the secondary would need this modification. I remember hearing this rumor years ago. Maybe other models or brands benefited but not the SRX or Viper. Turk M.r viper please advise.

Turk - you are agreeing that the secondary bottoms out on the helix first before the primary has closed completely? Interesting as I don't want to pass bad info. I will have ice in just a few weeks for testing and am gonna to revisit my low gearing setups that I can bury very easily. I fooled around with overdrive and this helix trick just a couple of seasons ago and remember the opposite. I do tune my sled out in front of the bar and do spend a lot of time inside between adjustments. I will revisit and post. Mr Viper you must have an opinion.

I have never ever seen buttons bottom out but cutting 60 thou lets them get lower faster.

if u buy the helix ajustable u will find that ur sled will loss top end why? becauce the helix does not allow the secondary 2 open all the way as it bottoms agaist the sheave so on this i cut a 1/8 off now it opens the secodary all the way. some one told me they were no good but 2 me thats crape every thing is made 2 work sometimes its just mechnics that got over looked so u figure it out. so i looked at the reason u loose speed and thats all it needed.

How much speed in a 1000' speed run will this gain? Do any of our members do this mod? If it gains speed I would like to try it.

I bought an overdrive shieve for the primary and hauck told me to cut the helix down in the secondary I believe .080"- .100" to make my secondary open up more. My other option was to get an aftermarket helix.
