First, You guys have an amazing forum, def going to be on here a lot!
Second, I have an 02 Viper and the service light blinks non stop.
The flashes are about half a second and the its off for about a half a second (its on the same amount of time as its off) and it never stops or changes or pauses. I don't see this problem in the manual or tech sheets.
I just got her out for the year, cleaned carbs, PV's and adjusted them.
Took her out for a ride and had the thumb warmer service light but after running for a while that went away.
Runs like its brand new but this light is annoying.
It sat through a high wind blizzard without being covered
But it still ran great. Seen on another post that the light may be triggered by moisture in the gauge pod, well there is a little moisture right over the speed screen but its only about the size of a quarter and you can barely see it.
Any suggestions or comments would be great! Thanks!

Are you sure you dont see a pause? 7 flashes are powervalves. Might want to give them a check. Start with servo, check connection ect. Welcome to the site and i really like your hood decal, sharp. CCC

Eight (
flashes and a short pause is the temperature sensor. I just had a similar issue but the wire had broken off in the plug.
Since I couldn't locate that plug quickly, i used a small Radio Shack pin soldered to the wires with heat shrink tubing. I drilled out the old plug so the wire and pin wouls slide through the plug. This kept everything farily watertight and from moving around.

i would check the PV's as stated above. I wouldn't think it would be from the moisture in within the gauge pod. I have always had a small amount of moisture in the pod depending on the day (trail dust etc)....don't think they are hermetically sealed between the plastic cover of the gauges and the actual displays.

Well thanks for the tips. I know the PV's are ok because I just cleaned them and reset them.
But yesterday we put on about 100 miles. And I sat their staring at it so long trying to see a pause that I seen it in my sleep! lol But that light was on through about half of the ride, then I turned up my hand and thumb warmers and boom, it was off... they work fine, any ideas on that? Thanks again guys!

Also, I am hosting a memorial ride for my friend that was killed last year doing what we love. This will be the 2nd annual ride (in SE Minnesota) and we are doing it in honorary memory of another local rider that recently died and all the profits from it go to that family. Anyone that could tell me where I should post this info on here so people can hear about it or make donations would be great. Just don't wanna put it in the wrong spot. Thanks!

With the light going out after turning on the hard warmers i would think short somewhere. Check your had grip connections well, and look for that PIA harness rub through. Did it come back on when you turn the grips off? CCC

I have checked the wiring and nothing seems bad. And I never turned them off. I'll try that the next time I am out on it and let ya know. Thanks

I have a friend in the vinyl business, he made them for me.
As for the temp light, I got her warm last year and that light came on along with the temp light so I know what that one looks like plus we were riding in 20 inches of powder so it couldn't be that. But thank you

OK, When you start your viper it runs a self diagnostics check. When a problem is detected, the warning light and the check engine indicator will flash a unique flash pattern. there are a number of flash patterns. each one is unique, and identifies a specific problem. the viper owners manual has a list of the flash patterns. Once you have identified which flash pattern you have, according to your manual, you can research online, or contact a yamaha dealer and tell them which flash pattern is being displayed. ( i.e., 1,2,3 ect.) they will cross-reference it with there chart and tell you what that flash pattern means.

I had the same thing happed to me last year, the light would flash constantly so i kept stopping and trying to figure out what was wrong with it, i shut the handwarmers off and the light went out, i then turned them back on again later and everything worked fine and the light never came on like that again the rest of the year and everything worked great

Yeah same here, I turned up the t/h warmers and it went away for the remainder of the day... I'm thinking moisture or something gets in there. Coz the warmers worked fine even with the light on.
