Im no electrical issue wizard but I can spin a wrench so If I was in your shoes I might go to the trouble of installing the other stator.
they have a ohm test but i dont put alot of faith in those, whats the problem your having?

It runs good but no dim headlight and the bright one is so dim that my dad compared it to a candle. also no tach but it lights up fine as long as its on bright. It has a normal tail light as far as being bright but no brake light.

Just fired it up now has no headlight but all the rest the same. I read on here 2 guys had what sound exactly the same as the problems im having one said stator one said rubbed wires. So thought if i could test the stator it might rule that out.

you have a rubbed thru engine harness, thats all
the key clue being it changes the tach with the headlight dimmer switch.
unhook the harness up at hood hinge, tie a small peice of rope to it, remove exh. pipes and silncer.
then bend over clamps in bellypan, pull harness up and out from under engine, repair the chaffed wires, tape each one sperately and then place in convoluted auto harness tubing, pull back with rope and reinstall exh.
should take ya about a hour to reapir, wont happen again with convolute tubing installed.

Thank you mrviper700!
My tach would reset when I hit the high beams and it was the stator. I also had no hand warmers that was the biggest tell something was wrong frozen hands
But checking for rub thru is first and easiest

I just tested my stator between the brown/red and brown and have no ohms of resistance. Is there another way to test to see if stator is still good?
