yes but...
Just replaced my broken pull start cord and now when I pull I get way too much compression. I removed the plugs and the pull is good...happens when i put the plugs back in (my compression is 120 on each cylinder @6 pulls. It was running great until the pull start cord broke.
...any ideas would be appreciated.

work on those muscles of yours. If the sled is out in the cold, they are hard to pull, but your compression is probably tighter then before rebuild.Or get thicker cord.In side the garage mine pulls easy, outside today for a few hours..was way harder to pull .Have you not ridden the sled yet.My rebuild is holding, must of done a good job.Got nearly 200 miles on the rebuild aready and she is starting to scream now,can feel the power increase by the way she pulls now.
Check the routing of the recoil rope, maybe its binding somewhere?

The engine pulls great once the plugs are out, this would indicate that the engine isn't stiff from the cold and the cord is not obstructed. How the the PV's play into starting, are they normally open? Something is creating compression, how does the decompression work?

your pistons and rings..lol..Pull it harder!!!!
Has the engine filled with fuel? Polaris tripples used to be bad for this, but not normally a Yamaha issue.

are your pistons stock?? did you check your ring gaps before install, mind you if it went in..should be good..unless it expands when warm and doesn't have enough room to compress...then you have an issue.

All I can say is that the pull start worked great two day ago, then the cord broke...in fact it was easier to pull then before the rebuild...I've changed something when i replaced the cord...pulled the pipes, changed gear oil, topped up the coolant...in fact I over filled it. Blue the rebuild appears to be a success i took it out the other day and it was scary fast...also starts on less pulls...until now.

Bob, the plugs appear to be ok, no excessive fuel or fuel smell.

...well I feel pretty foolish right now , I put a hair dryer on the block for about 20min. and sure enough pulls better. I guess with all this new found compression It's off to the gym for me (never had this kind of resistance when pulling in cold weather, guess it was due for a rebuild regardless of the meltdown).
Thanks

there maybe an issue with the dogs and spring in your recoil , when you apply pressure to the recoil (by inserting plugs ) something is jamming and when at ease no issue , just a thought , go with the obvious it worked and now it dont . hope it helps maybe wrong grese in recoil? ot something like that

how long was it outside for ? 120 compression very odd you need a hairblower , i only did that once and it was -36celcius and i was running 155lbs single pipe ? sled was outside overnight. im thinking you say you turned the crank over several times withiout the plugs then it should not have been an issue .

new found compression/power=new found muscles...lol more so for hanging on when you pin it.....

The type and brand of oil you use also makes a big difference on how easy the engine cranks cold.
