Well i got my 2002 viper out today to go up north this weekend and ride. I went to test ride it and it will not idle. It starts to idle down then acts like it will die so I have to choke it to keep it running. When i am driving it, it will run at high RPM but when I slow down it bogs and like a plug is fouled and it will back fire until i choke it or throttle up. Is this just a ploblem of bad gas and not running enough new gas through it yet?? Or do i have carb or power valve problems??

Clean your carbs and check your powervalves. I do this on our sleds annually. My money is on that you have a plugged pilot jet.

ya thats what i was leaning towards but i was kind of gun shy looking at those carbs they seem pretty complicated? Is this true? I have worked on a lot of snowmobiles and cleaned my fair share of carbs so im not a rookie

Viper carbs are easy. Pull the airbox first (one bolt) and then dig in. Close the carb heater valve then disconnect the fuel & coolant lines that feed the carbs, throttle and choke cables and tps/tors wires. Loosen the boots and pull the whole rack. You can do em in the sled, but it's easier and more thorough to just pull the rack and work comfortably at the bench.

Its your carbs for sure, nature of todays gas beast. Follow the directions per mrviper in the tech page and youll have no problems. PM sent. CCC

CLEAN YOUR CARBS - CLEAN YOUR CARBS - CLEAN YOUR CARBS - etc..ya get the idea :dead:

AGREE 100%

And yes, your pilots are plugged. I started mine a few weeks ago just to see if it would start after sitting all summer. It did the same thing. I was planning on pulling the carbs anyway. I opened them up and all 3 pilots were plugged.

I was just like you...Seen those 3 carbs and was like HOLY $hi*....It's not that hard...I've cleaned alot of carbs myself on older sleds and I went to the Tech pages printed off the sheet on carb cleaning and followed it to a Tee...It was very easy and then took it out for a ride and it was just like it was supposta be...Trust me it's not too bad Just take your time and pay close attention to detail..You'll be fine...
