i have a 1998 MSRX and i have burned the #3 cylinder for the 3 time the first 2 times was caused by a peice of foam from the top of the airbox that i found after the i redid the cylinder the 2 time it burned down i removed the foam and changed the reed cage also a new cylinder and piston and head but i didnt change the base gasket under all 3 cylinders i just put sealer on the top of the gasket on the one cylinder so now what happened it burned down again i put new crank seals last season so i dont think its that so anybody have any ideas what it could be it needs a new cylinder piston and head again

well, whats the carb specs set at?
does the carb boot have cracks in it?
being its a mtn sled its possible the jetting has been leaned out on the needle and such, but with the same cylinder all the time its doubtfull, but could only be 1 carb wrong specs, hard to say without verifying it.

Did you remove the liitle screen under the needle and seat and clean that?

u should be able 2 read the problem from the top of the piston lean, detination, also read on the plug. u should be able 2 renic ur cylinder for half the price of new and as good as new or better, is it burning out on a high climb or down low, are u sucking snow in to that carb???????? we need more info 2 help its like looking for the needle in the hay stack, take pics of piston top and plug i,m sure we could tell u the problem with that in mind ???????

Theres no sense in saying he should be able to read this and that. Im sure if he knew how he would, but since he doesnt hes gonna need some help.
To the OP: When you get your clyinder torn down this time take the time to upload some pics here and someone will take the time to look at them and give you an educated guess of what they think is causing your problems.

the first thing you should do is pressure test the engine before you take it apart, this will reveal if it was from a air leak.then check intake for cracks, then carbs .this is what i would do.

As mrviper700 indicated, we need more info as there are many issues that can create a burn down. Pretty well every melt down is the result of one or more issues causing a lean condition. A mysterious burn down needs to be thoroughly investigated in a systematic fashion and every possible cause checked and elliminated...LOL!....just like a crime scene.

Dirty carbs and poor fuel are causing a lot of grief on two strokes of late[it could be that simple]. In your case I would also be very suspicious of reusing the base gasket with sealant but those are just a couple of many things that need to be checked.

Post some pics it will help with ideas.
