I just got the sled running the other day after having all the problems with the carbs. I took it around the yard a couple of times after this and it ran great. So tonight i went to go for a ride and started it up with the choke. Once it was running for a couple seconds I took the choke off and it reved up to around 4,000 so I put the choke back on. The idle went back down to around 16 to 1700. So I let it warm up. I started taking it around the house and this continued. I would give it gas then let off and the idle would stay around 4 to 3 grand then would go down to 1700 after idiling for a couple seconds or me putting the choke back on. If I tried to give it gas while it was reved up around 4 to 3 it would just bog down. Could the throttle be sticking? The sled was just sitting out in the snow uncovered. Any help would be appreciated. I have had the carbs off multiple times cleaning them.
sounds like a bad throttle cable adjustment

I would agree, check throttle and choke cables. Also make sure all of your carbs are tight and secure in the rubber boots.

You say it idles up to 4000 rpm but when you flip the choke it idles down. Choke on means more fuel. So it sounds like you're getting too much air and no fuel at idle. When you hit the throttle you allow more air in so it leans out more and bogs. What are your pilot jets set at?

I think I've got it now. the cables where out of adjustment and I took it around the house seems to be good. Thanks

It dosn't bog now but the rpms seem to take a little longger to come down after I get off the throttle than I remember. Any thoughts?
if your at 2.5 turns out and still have a slight idle hang, you really need to go to the next size up pilot jet.

yep as said above, just changed my pilots to 45's today because the idle hang was bugging me some the other day.

I have 45's I believe stock. Whats the next size 50? and how many turns? I am also wondering if maybe I tightend the throttle cable just a hair to much? The sled ran great all last year so I would think the pilot size would be ok this year. Also if the float bowl was out of adjust could this do this?
maybe be try to lower a bit more the rpm

Anytime you have the screws out past 2 turns, you really need to bump up to the next size pilot jet, and then your fuel screws wont have to way out. The spring on them doesnt keep alot of tension on them and they can vibrate out if too far.

Actually the next size is 47.5, and if your running pipes youd need bigger then stock 45's. What brand pipes do you have?
On most any viper I have done, with 3x pipes, I need a minumum of 47.5 pilots and then run the screws at 1.5-1.75 out from seated. A sled likes a good amount of fuel down low to accelarate the motor with good aggressive clutching.

I have the Hauck CPR tripples
in the classifieds, from mm800, get a set of 47.5 pilot jets for it, your problems will be over, 45's are too lean for those pipes.

I looked and I have the 47.5's
if your positive you have everything set right and its idle hanging with the screws at 2.5 turns out with 47.5 pilots, then you need 50's in there.
