does anyone know what controls off idle and mid on the butterfly style phazer carbs? it will idle but needs choke to move.carbs have been apart a few times and they were a little dirty.i noticed on top there appears to be welch plugs behind what look to be mixture screws.i'm wondering if theres a plug jet under those plugs.any help would be great. thank you,shawn

There are pilot jets under the rubber plugs that need cleaned. Make sure you put rubber plugs over the pilots and the center holes.

Yes, those pilots are likely partially plugged. Make sure your air passages are clear too. There are good drawings on the web that will help you follow each passage. Just make sure they are all clear by spraying carb cleaner through each one watching for it to come out where it should. Be sure to keep all of the rubber parts away from the carb cleaner.

what is the float level supposed to be set at.we found the needle assemblies in upside down but it still runs the same.i'm wondering if someone tried to adjust the floats with the needle assemblies in upside down. thanks again!

Let me know if you still new the float level spec? I can fax you a copy of the factory service manual page/pages that deals with the carb set-up. I also have the carb update bulletin from Yamaha. It shows what new parts to order (in case you don't already have them) and how to set-up the carb with the internal changes. Basically fattin's up the midrange preventing detonation.
