Anyone with the 02 having issues with the sensitve dcs? I am running Canadian 91 octane with no ethanol.I have seen posts here and there but thought I would throw out what I am thinking of running. I currently have the 01 spec in there(150,148.8,148.
and if I stab it around 7000 or so rpm I can trip the light at where I feel the valves are opening but if I roll into it most times the light will not go off. Carbs are clean and wash is typical srx. What I was thinking of doing is going to 150 across the board and shimming the needles with one additional shim. Anyone have thoughts and where could I get those shims? Thanks all!!

I am running 150 mains all three carbs on my 2002 srx and running canadian sunoco/petro canada ultra 94 which is about 10% ethanol and I add the marine sta-bil each fill up and havent seen the dcs in a loooong time. I had the dcs flickering the rare time so I upped all jets to 150 and started adding the marine sta-bil at the same time. Dont know which one is my fix but i havent seen the dcs light in forever.

JOSH, JUST FOR A XPERAMENT, SEE IF YOU CAN UP OCTANE EVEN MORE HERE. GET IT UP TO AROUND 100. BET LITE GOES OFF. STUDS SHOULD BE HERE ANY DAY. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Adding more fuel will not get rid of dcs. You need more octane. dcs senses detonation & throwing more fuel with not enuff octane won,t fix the problem.

funny you would have that issue.I am on stock jetting, using 91 octane ,no ethanol in it and my DCS light never comes on anymore.
Turk and Tony is exactly right, went thru this problem in detail with another member here, member kept arguing it needed bigger jets. other engine guru's telling him i was wrong and it neededbigger jets. So he did so, then it would run like a enticer 340 and not pull rpm, way too rich! Well, when you keep adding fuel to cure the light, you make the sled so rich its like running with the choke on partially.
A engine has a certain air fuel ratio in which it will develope maximum safe power. The fuel curve is fairly wide on a srx, meaning it will make the same power a couple jets either direction from optimum, but of course you want to be on the safe side. The problem with a 02 srx( actually any 2000-02) is simply octane related and the problem of the light coming on and retarding the timing the further it goes on, it needs more octane, these guys are not making this up. Adding more octane allows you to run the same jets at a richer mixture if that makes sense, the octane is the fuels ability to NOT burn as fast and is cooler, however by adding more fuel of a lower octane will also cool the combustion but the mixture is way too rich at the same temp, too many ppm of fuel to air .
I had a 02 and had no problems with the light. I simply mixed in a tad of left over race gas when I had it or used octane booster if out on the trail. We have 93 octane or so the pump says and it still needed a kick in the pants. The richer mains up to the 150's is ok, and when you go to 152.5 and larger and such youll see the decrease on topend performance as it will be low on rpm.

The wash on 2+3 is slightly lean so I may step them to 150 for a starter and see what that gets me, your points are well taken and maybe the 150's don't solve the problem but dcs aside those two could use a little more wash and I doubt that will rob power
From what I see in that motor currently, I am sure that dcs bulbs out a little sooner and safer than it should.. Good points guys, I'll get into the clutching details next.. I have started to play with what was there but it needs work too, 8dn's loaded or not aren't for me..lol

just to add, the harder its clutched the more the octane requirment will increase, more load means harder working engine.
nothing wrong with 150's its when you get up into the start of mid 150's and such itll be way,way too rich.
I use 152.5 in 780's.......![Dunno :dunno: :dunno:](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/dunno.gif)

Yup I realize that..150's I will use across the board, what about a second shim under the needle?where can I get those shims?
