Hello all, Ok i am trying to get my viper clutching dialed in, I have got it going to where i want it except at the launch, Right now i have got in the secondary a 53/47 helix with green spring at 100, In the primary i have red heelclicker spring with HC with long bolt in the tip and long bolt and 5 washer in the heal. Off the line i am getting a bog. I beleive it is caused by the clutching,I am sucking the belt in off the line, i have to let off and try again sometimes it is ok and sometimes its just UUUUGGGHHH.Now should i go to a silver secondary spring or is it possible my green secondary spring is sacked out.

a viper ain't pulling a 53/47 helix w/heel clickers. also, 100deg wrap is crazy. what mods are all done to the sled?

Its a 780 BB, with slp pipes, srx heads, vforce reeds, 144 inch track. Yeah 100 deg is crazy,I usually run around 80deg,with a 51/43 and weight in the center hole, but i put the 53/47 and weight in tip and now this is what i have encountered.Pulls 8500 out of the hole when it doesnt suck the belt and climbs to near 9000 top. Pulls awesome and tops out 106 on dreamometer.Im shooting for 660ft drags.Oh yeah its a mountain viper with 8 tooth drivers.

I feel the 53/47 helix is too steep. You could try moving weight back to the center location, but I don't think its gonna do enough for you. You could try to find a 51/45 helix, or if it was up to me, I would just go and throw that 51/43 back in there, especially if you have had it dialed in w/that helix in the past.

hey crazykid, are you sure its sucking the belt? does it squeel or make any burning belt smell? just a thought, but could it be a lean bog . the harder you have the sled clutched off the line the more fuel it needs from the pilots. i some times use the same helix in my 780 srx, similar to yours 144 track,9tooth drivers and 21 39 gears and i only have to use 60-70 twist with a green spring.

yeah the heel clickers need more juice off the the line, check to see how much your fuel screws are out, my srx had the same bog and needed to be turn out to 2 1/4

Yeah im pretty sure its got something to do with the belt and clutch, the power is there, if i didnt let off i think i would burn that belt up or something. It makes an awful sound off the line. Ive got 45 pilots in the carbs because i had a lean bog last year. Now as far as the helix, I tried putting the 51/43 back in and didnt get anywhere near the pull i had with the 53/47.True the bog and awful sound was gone, but at what cost? I lost the pull. Thanks for the input guys, Could a silver spring maybe help?

The only way you'll know is to try it and see, try it at different wrap. Hows your clutches to touch are they hot and what kinda noise is it making ;)!

heck ya the silver will help, you have big time traction(144), steep gearing (8 tooth drivers)and a super fast shifting primary(h/c's) with a very aggressive helix.

I too have had a very good set up with a helix real close to that with heel clcickers, if you can hook it it will run good in short drags.

45 pilots are stock pilots for a viper, with most any triple pipes I always need 47.5-50 pilots with good aggressive clutching, and this would fit your set up.

Yeah, got my machines mixed up thought, i was talking srx, its my viper im running and yes i have got 50 pilots in as per slp recomendations. Sorry about the brain fart guys. I definatly am going to try the silver spring, And yes it pulls awesome with the setup ive got, Never thought the viper would pull a 53/47, but damn it really pulls. Atleast it seems to pull seat of the pants, deffinatly hits 90 + quicker. I bought the machine with a 144 track with 2 inch lugs cut down to 1 1/4 with four picks 1 5/8 every second pitch, What ever that works out to, never did count them. Hooks awesome. Thanks guys
