Can you put studs on this sled and if so what size and how many. Trying to get a couple more years out of my track.

i would put 96-144 down the center (probably 96) If i were to stud again.
What shape is the track in? You mention getting more time is this because of lack of traction or because the track is starting to wear out?
as for height you want them just a bit taller then the lugs,

for traction, the track is stock do you happen to know the lug height?

3/4 inch lug I believe
96 1" studs up the middles is what i run. I bought the sled with a fried track two years ago and bought a 3/4 one and studded it. In heindsight I wish I would have gone with a deeper lug track as the 3/4 lug is really pathetic on anything other than hardpack trails. Studding it will only help you in these conditions, so if this is what you want then go for it, but if you want better traction across the entire range then forget it. I should have bought a deeper lug with the built in studs instead of what I got, but live and learn I guess. Hope this helps.

Yes that sled didnt come with any.I would also do front heat exchanger protectors. But they are no longer available. You would have to make some or find used one.If you know anyone that can weld aluminum you can get some square bar stock and weld them in.

There is no front heat exchanger on the 96 XT. 96 1 inch studs is plenty for the 600XT. The rear cooler protectors are going to be hard to find. The 96 XT and the 97 Vmax4 are the only two that are the same. If you find some for your sled let me know where.
if i install rear drop brackets say 3 inchs will this raise it enough to clear.

Those are different than the 96 xt's take. The xt's are wider at the front. They are approximately 1" at the rear and 2" wide at the front and are approximately 8" long. I bought a set of Bender Racing ones brand new a guy was selling last year, they no longer make them but he had them and was never going to use them. I haven't put them on yet, so I can take a few pics of them if you like. Also, the Bender ones I have take six rivets each for a total of 12.
