Your probily better off with rail extension, you don't want too much track in front of your rails not supported by anything.but it can be done.

what year is the mtn max? if its 2000 or newer, go with the rail extensions. pre-2000 offers a few more options.

Rail Extentions/freedom Axle
I Would Use Rail Extentions. If You Wanted To, You Could Use A Freedom Axle To Gain Another 1.5" And Use Big Wheels. Like Snowking Said The Farther Distance Between The Tips Of The Rails And The Drivers, The Greater The Chance To Stab A Rail Through The Track.

2001 mm ,, YES I ordered rail extensions and that is the way I am going.... Why do people put tunnel extensions on ? Just for looks or WHAT ? All my sleds cool enough without the extensions . I think they look better without them, so I don't get it (confused) ??????
Sometimes tunnel extensions are required due to when the skid bottoms out the track will catch the very back of the tunnel or the snow flap will get sucked in.

my question is how do you know how far to move the skid? I am looking to put a 121 or a 136 in my phazer that is now a 116. any info is greatly appreciated.

Like the guys said here,,, don't move the skid... get rail extensions or a longer SKID..

simple math. 121-116=5 x .5=2.5. the phazer skid is so far forward the track stabbing is not an issue. so once you reach your 121" starting point and you want to get to 136, do some more math. 136-121=15 x .5 = 7.5. so in theory you will need 7.5" extensions. on this move you need to factor in lug heigth as driver size. you may need an 8" extension(if available) if you go down to seven tooth drivers depending on track choice. in your case. move the skid back 2.5", then get the extensions for a 121-136 conversion. as i mentioned before, when your ready, let me know.86 phazer said:my question is how do you know how far to move the skid? the tunnel extension is for your own protection. imagine yourself sliding off the back of the sled and onto a track spinning 50 mph. now imagine that same spinning track and what its spinning. how much crap do you want thrown up your backside?porkhaaks said:2001 mm ,, YES I ordered rail extensions and that is the way I am going.... your sled is equipped with a rear heat exchanger, thats part of the equation as to why it cools so good. by not relocating it further back you place it directly in harms way when the suspension collapses. you dont want to damage that in the middle of nowhere.
