I am looking for a little advise. At the end of last season I bought a Viper seat with a couple of tears but other wise good shape. My plan was to add more foam to the top or bottom and have the cover fitted to match. Another guy on here did it but he only has 5 posts and doesnt answer pms. I dont see an easy way to ad rigid Styrofoam to the bottom to raise it up. Due to the fact it is made from molded plastic with molded Styrofoam on top of it. I am a big guy. 300 plus and my knees are toast. Cant afford a newer cab forward type sled. I want to keep riding and sitting up will help a lot. Do I spend another two 250 (approx) on beefing up my Viper seat or do I make the plunge and by a Boss for 400 plus shipping? I have a good upholstery gut. I am going to drop seat with him tomorrow and get a quote. I am looking for opinions of any of you with bad knees that have done either. My first trip for the year in in Two weeks. :letitsnow I am riding a 98 700sx with Apex rear shocks.

This is what I did with my Viper seat. I was not a big fan of the quality of the Boss seats or the price.

I've done both. I have had my current Boss on my Viper for 4 yrs. It's NOT like the new seats. No comparison to my moddedstock seat. I actually ditched IT for an SX seat, then I got the Boss. No more sore knees and back. If you can find an older 1 used, go for it !!

I put a used REV seat on my sx. I love it. Took a little trimmimg off of the front of the seat. I bent an aluminium strap and rivoted it towards the front seat bottom and then bolted the strap to the tunnel. My primary reason for the change was the huge REV trunk which I also intalled. The raised seat was a bonus. Did it all with $40 in used parts at Haydays.

So the seat riser is not tapered then? It looks real good. Did you use rigid Styrofoam?
The seat riser is not tapered. Bent up some aluminum to make a 1 1/2" channel. Took some flat aluminum, cut it to the shape of the seat and riveted it to the channel. Drilled some holes and filled it with spray foam. I also welded a longer bolt to the original seat bolts to accomodate the extra height of the seat riser.

Hey RZ, what did that start out as? The seat I mean? And deffo some progress pics would be awesome, or some kind of write up!

The seat started as a stock viper seat. I modified the plastic frame from the inside and carved new foam to the shape I was after.

The tank is painted. It was alot of work to smooth out. Lots of sanding and high build primer. In the end this mod did not work out for me. It looked awesome for a couple months but eventually the gas fumes permiated through and blistered the paint.
