I have a question concerning which way the bearing goes behind the lower gear that drives the cog shaft in the chaincase. If you are looking at the chaincase does the seal side face you or the bearing side? I thought it was the seal side when i pulled it out but it seemed more logical that the bearing side would so that it runs in the chaincase oil? I appreciate your input and thank you in advance.

The seal goes toward you, it will be inside the case. Oil still gets through the seal to lube the bearing.

There should also be a separate lip seal about 3/4" behind the bearing that keeps the poop out of the open side of the bearing.
Like edunn69 said, oil will slowly leak through the seal to lube the bearing and at the same time keep the metal shavings out of there from the chain and gears.
