random ignorant question. Has anyone ever tried to make the yamaha engine run backwards like polaris does to have revese with no extra weight? I see many problems, but no extra weight, and having slp pipes taking up space for reverse chaincase it seems like a good deal. thanks

You would have to find a way to change the ignition timing on the engine. This could be achieved by adding an additional ignition pick up on the crankshaft. You would then have to wire the sled to run from that pick up rather then the factory one, and you would also have to find a way to crank the engine in the opposite direction for easy repeated use.
A two stroke does not care which direction it runs, A change in timing is all that is needed. Oil injection pump could be a problem though. Al

from what i read in sno goer a few years ago the engine running backwards was the easy part of RER. the hard part was getting a secondary to work under torque from both directions.
