80 enticer, and ex 440 78-80 . what is the clutch tapers of these sleds. what is the best up grade. thx

If I can find a 102 I will. Any other clutches that will fit ? I know a guy that put a 30mm Cat clutch on a 89 Exciter.

all polaris clutches fit, but you will need to adjust belt width, polaris runs a 1 3/8 yamaha runs 1 1/4. works well to find a 1 3/8 belt that is the correct length, and shim the secondary to accept the 1 3/8 wide belt. or you can shim the primary spider to accept the 1 1/4.

The problem you will run into with most other clutches is that there won't be an oil pump/tach drive gear on them like the stock clutch has. Comet did make a 102 with this gear just for these sleds. These clutches were also machined by the gear to be the sealing surface for the oil pump/tach drive gearcase. I think a 485 Phazer drive gear could be adapted to work as it wasn't attached to the clutch but was on the crank with a pressed fit. You would still have the issue of sealing the gearcase but if a Phazer clutch was used that should eliminate that too.

P-85's are a great clutch and I've seen them used with a stock yamaha secondary like the Exciter has. Enticers are different and the P-85 would be tough to make work with them. As 8.1chevyHD said you can shim the stock secondary open to work with the 1 3/8" belt but you will run into problems at full shift if you don't also modify the secondary helix to allow the clutch to open farther. The p-85 is an overdrive clutch and the Enticer/Exciter secondarys are not. The combination of the larger primary and wider belt will cause the belt to bottom in the secondary before it has reached the top of the P-85 primary. Belt bind, belt stretching, burning and a huge top end power loss will be what happens. We've done this combination sucsessfully on an Exciter style secondary by machining a small amount of material off the backside of the secondary helix where the snap ring goes (about 1/8"). This allows the secondary to open further and the belt to drop deeper into it, thus allowing the belt to reach the top of the secondary before it stretches/burns. The Enticer secondary is a different animal and this method won't work on it. Not much will.

There are options but none are very easy with exception of the 102 Comet with the oil pump gear on it unless you want to get rid of the oil pump.

Good Luck, opsled

Thx for all the info.
pre mix is ok.
As for the wider belt and increased diameter of a P85 I was thinking of finding a longer belt and ride it up 3/8" out of the sec clutch. Ive done this mod on a 03 cat. works good. ?? if I get it figured I will post the results.
