Any recomendations on what would be a good gearing combo for a mountain max used in the trail? Id like to get a bit more top speed but dont want to lose too much bottom end.

Say i can get 120-130 kms out of it now , around what do you think it should do with that new gearing? How big of a loss in bottom? doesnt have to be a specific answer just an estimate would be good. thanks :rocks:

ok im a bit confused lol. I want to have more top speed. I thought that i had to gear up as in get a smaller sprocket/less teeth. So what should i do to get more top speed.

to gear up you need to increase teeth on the top gear (drive gear) or lower the number of teeth on the bottom gear (driven gear) this lowers the ratio number as people call it gearing up (more speed)

ok makes sence. I think ill do it and let u all know how it makes out. But one more question. How much is a new drive gear with 2 more teeth?

well first you have to find out what gears you have, and what length chain you have, then find a gear, either bigger top or smaller bottom, and find out if that combination will work with your chain, if not you may need a new chain 2

ok the stock gearing is 19/39 and thats whats in it now. The chain is a 68link. A stock sxr 500 has gearing of 21/39 with a 68link chain so i would think if i put a 21tooth top gear on mine it would fit with the stock chain. What do you think?

21 tooth should be just fine, 21/39 with 8 tooth drivers is about the same as 19/39 that I have on my SX600R with 9 tooth drivers and I top out at 100mph on radar.
