hey just wondering how to test a stator on a 04 viper. My tach goes out and headlights dim when i hit the brakes and switch the headlights to high and low beam.
you can do a ohm check on it, its listed here on the site.
have you ever checked the wiring harness under the engine for chaffs/rub thru's? thats a common problem and also gives you the same symptoms. Its not wasted effort because they ALL fail sooner or later so its just preventative if not. place the harness in convolute tubing and it will never occur again.

ok I'm new to this site so where do i look that up on here? Just search for it in the forums?
on my 02 I pulled the harness out from under the engine and it was fine. I put it in tubing anyways to protect it. I replaced the stator and it worked great after that. Not even a flicker of the headlights when I press the brake. Yamaha has an updated part for the stator.

I pulled the stator out, is there any way to test it with it not in the machine?

0.36-0.44 ohms at 68*f across any two of 3 white wires.also check from white wires to the steel center section where it bolts to the engine, you should not get any reading here.Jesse Peterson said:I pulled the stator out, is there any way to test it with it not in the machine?
