Hi, I bought a srx 600 -98 yesterday and it runs perfect on the mid to high range rpms and idles perfect but when I agressively press full throttle from idle it bogs. I read somewhere that the pilot jet may be clogged if this occurs and I read that you could feel on the pipes how warm they are. After maybe 5 minutes off idleing the middle pipe is pretty cold and the other two are pretty warm. Is the middle carb pilot jet clogged, or what do you think?

did you clean yours carbs first before riding it first time.???Guys don't want to burn up their motors..but happens all the time.Carbs could be issue, also clutchs could be an issue..bushings binding....old belt with flat spot...springs...etc.Usually if pilots are plugged you'll get a high idle hang. Now if your pipe is cold..now you have plug, plug cap, coil or stator issues to look at....

my viper did the same thing and would bogged die out when I punched it from a dead stop. I took the carbs out and sure enough one of the pilot jets was gummed up, cleaned it up and runs like a champ now.
OK, thanks for your answers, I also think something in the carbs is clogged. Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4iocIZcknQ
And no, I havn't cleaned the carbs yet.

now that is a nasty bog...maybe more then carbs now..Better maybe check your reeds for breakage at the same time you have your carbs off. What color are the plugs and what is compression now..that doesn,t seem like it would be just a carb issue..maybe a carb sync needed..check that to...

That definately seems like a lean bog but Its sounds pretty darn good once it comes up on the revs! Maybe too good like optimum performance jetting sounds, a little on the lean side.
I would definately start with a thorough cleaning of the carbs and have a look at the reeds when you have the carbs off. Check the tech section for your stock carb jetting specs and compare to what is in the carbs now, mains, needle position, pilots, fuel screws. The factory stock jetting specs are pretty safe on a stock sled...especially with questionable fuel.

If it doesn't go away after carbs cleaned, reeds checked, compression tested, electrical tested then check your clutches.
I had a 1996 Polaris Ultra SP that I bought that had a really bad bog off idle but then would go allright. I cleaned the carbs probably 5 times, checked compression etc etc etc. I then replaced the belt, clutch spring and buttons in the secondary still did it then I was just stnading there looking at it just looking for something to jump out at me and wham it did. I looked at the primary clutch and there was a big gap between the sheaves and the belt. I measured it and it was almost .080 clearance. Factory specs call for .015 to .020 but I shimmed it to .010 and man it hooked up and took off like it was shot out of a cannon.

sounds like a very very dirty carb ...seem to run on 2 cylinder

You should definitely clean the carbs no matter what but do yourslef a favor and replace the plug first for the hell of it before hand to just rule out the plug. Ya never know. : )

yep, looked like a hare scramble mx track to me...lol
Having a similar issue with mine. Noticed it after my throttle cables slipped out of the lever. Cable slipped out after manually opening the throttle. Could throttle freely be the issue?

USUALLY CABLE STUFF LEADS TO HIGH IDLE. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Hey, finally cleaned and checked the carbs. The main jets are stock (146.3 146.3 150) and the fuel screws are set at stock setting (1 1/2 turns out).
But the pilot jets are 45. Stock is 47.5 according to TY technical page.
Was almost no dirt in the carbs, could it be the pilot jets are too small?

NO. STILL A CARB ISSUE OR COULD BE SPARK PLUG BOOTS, COIL, OR STATOR. TELL yA, NEXT TIME YOU CAN RUN THIS SLED IN THE FIELD, FLIP CHOKE ON AND OFF AND THAN HAMMER ON IT. POST WHAT IT DOSE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Ok
When I slowly press the throttle (without choke) it sometimes begins to stall @ 3500-4000 rpm.
When I flip the choke on and off the bog disappears.

GO BACK TO 47.5 PILOTS, ALSO TAKE AIR SCREWS OUT TO 1 AND 1/8. MORE I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS, YOU MAY NEED TO UP YOUR PILOTS. 3:16 (yammie tony)
