I've read on here where some of you claim to use a bolt/nut combo rather than rivets for the ease of changing them out. I want to try this but I don't want these suckers turning into bullets if they come loose! What exactly do you use size/length/nut type (nylon insert locking?).
Thanks, Mike

A few things
You can tap the weights with a 1/4X28 tap and then just get the bolts/screws or whatever at the hardware store. It you want to use a nut on the backside make sure it is thin enough that it doesn't contact the spyder. Use red locktite on the hardware and you wont have any "bullets"

if your doing this in a stock yamaha weight, you use a fine thread 1/4 tap, go slowly, it will barely cut threads into the weight. I use bolts and nuts all the time, its much easier to change and to add more weight if the rivet isnt going to be enough. There is 1 for sure thing you need to pay attention to, you have to make sure the hardware you add to the weight will clear the inside of the spider, so you have to swing the weight thru out its arc of travel and inspect the side to side clearance. I always use a drop of blue loctite on the hardware. Been doing this for years but I like to constantly tune and play around with set ups, so if your just changing the rivets one time, and just going to ride, its likely wasted effort.
ya, what Matt said....lol
does anyone have any pictures of this mod? I'd love to see what it looks like
Lol!
Hey Don, we must have been typing at the same time! Get away from the computer and port some SX cylinders would ya! LOL!

Thanks Guys! Wasn't sure if you just tapped the weights and put the bolts in or bolt/nut with no threads... but it sounds like the adding threads and possibly using a nut are the "weigh" to go along with loctite and double checking clearance.
