Is this an issue? what causes or caused this? its only on 1/3rd of shaft. I used a dremel to smooth down the burs. then buffed it with the dremel. There was no serious grinding, just sanding down the burs. I noticed this issue while i was searching for a reason why my sled stalled out after i slowed down.

its not good on the moving sheave bushing but if its not snagging it it might be fine, looks like rust, maybe from the off season storage.

I guess it could depending on how bad the burs were. If it was getting caught up on the burs it could be like your sled is hanging up and its making the sled start off in third gear so to speak. As long as you can push in and collaps the spring a bit Id say you may be all set.

I would also say it looks like the shaft rusted up over the summer and you had the bushing getting caught up on it.At the very least you should take the primary apart and inspect your bushings to see if the teflon(?) coating is still on them,I'd be willing to bet that it is missing in a couple of spots where the spots you smoothed out are.If this is what happened then new bushings and if you can swing it another spider would be in order because now that your old one has those marks in it it will most likely rust up on you again as the factory chrome finish is gone.

if you polish it up good it will be fine. you will need to keep an eye on it though as it now will rust alot faster. You will want to look on the other side of the spider as well with the cover off. the rust can extend under the bushing or on the back side. get it all cleaned up and when storing it in the spring, spray it down once clean with some light oil. come fall, just clean off the oil with a rag and some acetone and your good to go again.
