Hi,
I just bought a 03 Viper Mountain with a little over 100 miles. Pretty much brand new. This sled was owned in the mountains of Utah and the previous owner had rode it there. I brought it back to ND(low elevation) and took the carb apart since I assumed the jets were for the mountains. Come to find out everything is set to the stock settings for 300 - 1700 FT. Judging by that I should be able to ride it here without any problems. Here is the weird part. I rode it in West Yellowstone and it ran fine, I assumed it would be flooding and bogging, but nothing. The only thing I could tell that was different from stock specs was the Pilot screw was backed out like at 2 7/8 or so. Will be going back west in Feb, do I need to even bother with changing the Mains and Needles or just run it as is? The snowmobile is completely stock. It has 156.3 Mains and 45 Pilots Clip position of 3.

Will it hurt if I just change the mains and not the pilots? I have to take the bowl off the carb to change the pilots vs the taking the bottom cap off to change the mains.

Larger Pilots, Smaller Mains

As You Go Up In Elevation You Need Fatter Pilots. If You Run Stock Pilots At Elevation There Is A Good Chance You Will Come Home With Melted Pistons.
