I found a super clean showroom all stock 2002 Viper ER in red that has only 900 miles on it. What should it be worth? A relative is interested in it but the seller wants $3800. Does that seem too high? A friend of mine that is a wheeler dealer says he'd only pay $3000 max for it.
Thanks, any thoughts are appreciated.

I saw that ad. It looks like a very nice sled. I think it's worth in the 3000 to 3500 range with those miles. Darn near new 11 year old sleds don't come around to often. At least not in this part of the world. Did you go look at it?
I payed $3200 for an 03 just like that with 1600 miles on it last spring.

My brother in law wants to look at it but will probably ask me to go along. I did talk to the owner in Maplewood. I asked why such low miles. His story is the sled was owned by a 66 year old man that just never road it. Sat around in his garage. He bought it early this season and put on 300 miles but has decided to sell. I know if I look it I will be able to tell if it's realistic or not.
i would pay that forsure for that sled..looks like in awsome condition an almost still new..so my advice would be jump on that..i payed 3500 for my viper 2 years ago..so thats def a good deal

I saw a 04 with 186 miles on it sell for $4800 in Dec. The only thing that scares me about older sleds with very low miles is rusty cranks and dried up crank seals. Most of them have sat and were not stored properly. You could pay a premiunm price for it and have the crank go out or burn it down yet this winter. I have seen it hapen on all brands from 2000 to 2005. Just my 2 cents worth.
X2. That means it sat for extended periods. Was it fogged will be the biggest question. I would rather the sled had miles ridden then sitting if it's not stored properly.shorty said:I saw a 04 with 186 miles on it sell for $4800 in Dec. I agree, motors are supose to be riden, not sitting. I rather buy something with some miles. JMO
Good luck either way. (btw, I payed $ 2800 for my 03 MT Viper 2 years ago.)

Lets say it was not fogged properly. Can the engine be taken apart and cleaned up before use, or would there be permanent damage? That sleds a beaut. Speaking of dried seals, what about the shocks? Could the seals be gone in them too? What else could be damaged from no use?
I saw that too. My buddy in the know says the 03 on up are the ones you want. I dont recall why or even if this comment is valid. I just bought an 03 this year with 1100 miles on it for 3200 in a similar geographical location. It runs just fine and the wife loves it. Mines a bit dinged up. Was towed a few times without a full cover, mice got under the hood and chewed a bunch of the foam. Had a bent radius rod, cracked console.. I would have liked to have got it for 3k but needed a sled. The viper is a nice ride. Really nice. If that one was a blue and white 03 I would have been all over it offering 35 but thats me. Im not afraid of low miles provided its been ridden some every year. I think if it starts right up and idles fine, it should be good. I caution you not to run it hard as it probably has last years gas in it. Been a bunch of complaints of outboard guys having carb issues. 3800 is top buck but reasonable in my opinion. I doubt it will last if he is a motivated seller.

Mine is a 2002 std. and the only issue they had was the original shocks were valved like a cement truck. Other than that there wasn't much difference. The 2004 had a nicer pleated seat and that's what I have on mine. Oh and the '04 had the detonation sensor and the "S" version had Ohlins up front but crappier shocks in the rear.

On average around me the 02/03 ER's seem to hold at $3k. There are a few 04 Viper ER S for sale for $3000-3500 (3k-3.7k) in CT. In the pictures they look clean. Craigslist in CT.
Still love my 02 ER - already did a Ohlin M-10, side board supports and a few other things so the only extra thing the 04 has is the Ohlin fronts. Next on my list - when I find them at the right price.

Did you experience and top end loss with the M-10?

you can take the motor down and check it out, but for me, if I saw rust on the crank I would pull it and do the bearings. at that point you have taken care of the seals as well. ask them to show you how it was fogged. if they can repeat the process, or at least describe it, then you might sleep a little better.
