i have a 97 mm with 4000 miles, it well taken care of and in decent shape. last weekend the wife and i went for a ride, and as soon as we took of i noticed it had a kind of a boxey sound( like it was reving weird in a box )it seemed like a fouled plug or 2. it didnt do it all the time, but then i noticed as i reved it and was getting over 50 this sound would come back, almost a muffed bog sound, and it would top out around 60, i changed 2 plugs as i was sure it was 1 of the 2, rode a few more miles and it was the same. i changed the 3rd and i cleared up we rode for another 15 miles or so, pulled in the driveway at home and it was doing it again. left it alone, we todey we went for a ride, i changed all 3 plugs before we left, and it still didnt help. it seems ok as long as im just riding easy but when i get on it it bogs and seems like i fouled the plugs again. It has never done this before (it has fouled plugs, but this is something else) on occasion it will seem as its running fine when i get on it just going down the side of the road, then next time i attempt to get on it it will act up again. like i said, i have never had this problem before, i have rode in 2 feet of powder, blasting me over the windshield, and never a hitch, now on the road it is doing this, what could it be ? sorry about the long rant, just getting frustrated, thanks !

Easiest thing to try first is tors switch.
Plug its two wires into themselves and run the
sled. Tors is located on the carbs.

Thanks, will try it later today . last yr i had the problem that when i got on it, and then let off, it would bog and not pick back up, i had to let it completly idle down, once that happened, it ran like a raped ape, un til i got on it again and the let off, same results. I pulled the carbs, cleaned them, and it took care of the problem, they were dirty ! i was planning on pulling them again and doing the same, but this is a totally different problem here, as it seems intermittent, like it does clear up at times and run , then it starts acting up again. As i said i will try the tors first, any other suggestions? Thanks alot!

When you get on it hard and it sounds like
you hit a rev limiter so you stop and let it idle.
Then you can go again-tors switch

sorry, that is what it did last yr, when i hit it hard it would run great, but when i let off, and tried to hit it again, it would just bog, until i let the engine idle down, i took carbs of, cleaned everything out , (needle valves and all). that fixed the problem last yr, as i had had it for about 4 yrs by that time and had never cleaned the carbs. this yr it is a totally different beast, i hit the gas and it will run up good, but i can hear a weird bog in it kinda like its a muffeled sound , kinda boxey sounding, it deffinatly does not have the low end that it normally has, but its hard to tell if ur not use to it or havnt rode it much, my wife took it for a ride and she thought it was fine, but it tos out at 60mph and it will go faster believe me ! it will go faster than that in 3 feet of powder ! it really seems as if the plughs are fouled ! but ocassionally it seems like its running fine and it will almost dump u off the back if ur not holding in when ya hammer it ! just discouraging, as it is fairly low miles, i dont ride it too hard, most of the time i have my 3 yr old daughter with me , but i do plan to get some decent miles if i can get it running rite. I will connect the tors together in awhile and c if it makes a differance. thanks alot !

unhooked the tors and hooked the line to itself, it wouldnt even idle, put it back the way it is supposed to be, and it still wouldnt idle, never had this problem before, carbs are coming of as soon as i get a chance to spend some time on it !

i dont no why i hadnt thought about it sooner, but for the last 2 yrs, i have been loosing coolant, not alot, but still, its going somewhere ! took the plugs out , and the middle plug, looked i bit funny, im betting i got a gasket leak, into the middle cylinder. the strange thing is, it has ran great up until this year, will find out this weekend, i will have some time to tear it apart, thanks for all the help guys !
