How far out on the pipe or manifold do you want to position your EGT probe? I just bought an Avenger III and wanted to know before i started drilling holes? I have been told different distances, but I place more trust in my fellow yamaha brothers so if you know, please share.

The engine is 99 600sx, but have installed a 760 Hauck Big Bore. I am going to weld fittings on the stock manifold and my triple pipes. My triple pipes are Hauck Hushers (Simmons CPR). Let me know if I am missing anything.

Exhaust Gas Technologies Inc said that they got the following information from Yamaha:
Stock Probe Location for Yamaha Pipe's:
* 1.500" to 1.750" from The Exhaust Gasket Flange on Manifold or Y-pipe.
* Normal temp 1200-1250F / Detonation @ 1300F
I called hauck on the Hushers (Simmons CPR) and they said they had their probes 6" from the piston face. This was on a Viper with husher pipes. They said that 6" would be pretty close to the SX 760 BB kit. I am thinking I'll give Simmons a call to see what they say too.
