Whats the major differences between an 2002 SRX & Viper? Thanks!
SRX's are insanely fast out of the box and have a fanatical following.
Vipers are a beautiful sled with a lot of potential. Once that potential is achieved also an awesome sled.

Yep power sets them apart but the way the feel in the cockpit is different too. I think you sit a little lower to the ground on a SRX vs. the Viper. Of course some of it is the longer travel skid of the Viper but when you switch back and forth between these two sleds you will notice the different riding positions.

Whats the difference in the motor? Both are 700 w/ power valves right? Are the carbs & gearing the same?
Viper has a single pipe, SRX has 3 pipes.
Both machines have heated flatsides although I do not know the difference in the jetting and or barrel sizes. I'm sure they are different.
Both are power valve 3 cylinder engines.
Gearing is most likely different but not sure exactly what the differences are.
Stock SRX will top end a Viper, the SRX will also hole shot a Viper.
Viper has a much more comfortable suspension.
Viper is a trail machine.
SRX is a lake runner, at least that is where I have the most fun with it.
SRX is still good on the trail but it shines when you can let it go.
The Viper is a nice machine too, just not as fast.
From what I have seen the Viper needs a clutch and a racing skid in it, like a Bender skid. Then the Viper will hole shot the SRX and stay out in front for a while. The SRX will still top end the Viper.
SRX top ends around 112 Miles per hour
Viper will do around 105 to 110.

Porting is different for sure. Both are powervalved but the srx is much faster out of the box. Both are good looking machines in their own special way. Viper rides better on rough trail days but the srx will get you to the clubhouse faster. I have been driving my srx alot lately since the trails here are the smoothest ever. I think the viper is somewhere around 120 horsepower and the srx is around 140 horsepower.

On a smooth trail srx with ohlins will leave erery thing easle behind. They are like a slot car when you set them up right. When I get to nice trailes buy buy!!! Bumps the new sleds say buy buy to me.

I have an 2000 SRX thats studded and clutched and i put 3000 trail miles it last year. First sled ive had and it was setup when i bought it. I'm looking for something newer, this one is fast & fun! I'm probably leaning to the SRX w/ Ohlins. Any other input is appreciated!

That part I don't totally agree with. My old man's Viper has a fantastic holeshot and gives an SRX a hard run to close to 100. His is a runner and is always consistent from year to year.

I would keep the sled i have and save that 2547.62 for a 4 stroke nytro! There is not going to be a real difference in what you are riding and what you can buy. So I wouldn't upgrade!

\why not just put ohlins on yours?

spend the money and get good suspension all the way around your srx, youll outride all the newer sleds, i mis mine terrible, think i may end up getting another one and setting it up that way again, i had all long travel ohlins, pilot precision skis, and oh yea good track with alot of studs help too. even though i have a viper er and 06 nytro now i miss that ol srx bad. all good machines but just not the srx.

What kinda horse power is the Nytro making? I rode an RX1 for a thousand miles it wasnt real quick but made power forever. But it was heavier than heck. What would be cool is if Yamaha would make a VMAX 4 800cc with modern suspension! And pink & purple retro colors.

nytro has alot of power, pretty nimble(light feeling) compared to the rx1 and even my dads apex. not much for top end though, your not gonna get much more than 100 on it, have gotten more but only on ice. it is actually pretty quick up until that point though. it is just really fun to ride, reliable, and nice not having to get oil all the time. it does not handle the really rough stuff as well as the srx did with all the suspension i had in it. that thing the meaner i was to it the better it liked it.

I was talking about a fx nytro and they rip to about 100 you can get a little more out of it you tune and care. They are about 130 hp that is fuel injection and gets a good 14-18 mpg. Not the slot car feel but areal good time not the tank that an rx1 is.

Stock one is cool too, I'd ride one all day.
