Hey guys new here and hoping you can help me out. I bought a 2002 srx and it came with a SC10-3 rear skid and a kimpex 1.25" tomohawk track w/8 tooth drivers. This thing rides great and hooks up awesome. The sled definitly isnt as fast as it should be im seeing about 100 mph on hard pack snow. i went through the skid all bearings/wheels are good. i know it will lose top end with a bigger track even tho the tomohawk is said to be a light/speed track. Now im wondering what affect the 8 tooth drivers have ?? do i need to re-gear? also noticed the post with the m10 and track tension was brought up, anyone know how i should be adjusting it for the sc10 3?? thanks

Your signature sled says Sxr 600. Did you buy an Srx ? Which sled is it?
my friend just went to 8 tooth drivers on his MXZ 700, the gear options he has result in 78mph 85mph 100mph 120mph........
if it pulls hard and still does 100 on the dream-o-meter I would say it's set up fairly well with the 8 tooth drivers......
sounds like its set up for trails, if you want more topend you will want to go up teeth on the top gear or make slight changes going down teeth on your bottom gear!!!

Ya I made an upgrade from the 600 to the srx and maybe go up on the top gear eh? Like I say it pulls good but looking for top end too if possible

then try changing one tooth on the top...... if you dont like it put your old top gear back on and change your bottom gear..... it seems to be about a 3:1 difference to me...... 1 tooth on top is about the same as 3 teeth on the bottom......
this calculator might help....

Thanks thats a handy site, ill play around with that and probably do a bigger top gear. Will i still be okay with my stock chain?

Another thing to note is that when a sled is changed to 8 tooth drivers the speedo still thinks you have 9 tooth drivers so it is now WAY OVER indicating its speed reading [even more then stock], so it becomes even more of a dream meter.

does the 3.00 pitch track compensate for the 8 tooth drivers i was playing in the calculator and it looks like the track pitch is affecting the ratios aswell.. Ex. is 2.52 with 9 tooth somewhat equal to 3.00 and 8 tooth drivers? thanks for all the help just trying to grasp the situation. i notice yamaha doesnt seem to list a 24 tooth drive gear for a srx, but they do for a vmax 800, will that work?

8 tooth with 3.00" pitch would pull 24" of track in one drive shaft rotation
9 tooth with 2.52 pitch would pull 22.68" of track in one drive shaft rotation
So...
When using 8 tooth with 3.0" pitch your speedo would actual under indicate by approx 5% from the stock setup...it actually may be close to reading your actual speed!
VMAX4 top gears will not work on your SRX. I use polaris hyvo gears on my 2002 SRX and just space them properly so the chain runs true.

Okay think i got my head around this now, and since my overall drive ratio is slightly higher/faster i dont want to gear up, ill just have to live with the consequence of a tall track on a srx, might loosen up the track/check tension, and noticed my exhaust gaskets at the manifold arn't looking too healthy, the mag side i think i can see the exhaust pressure spreading the flange off the donut.. is it common for these springs to become weak, or do most guys double up on them? Also i assume some high temp RTV would be the reccomended sealant for these gaskets/flanges? thanks again for all your help guys
