Hey guys, have the Vipers had problems with ice and snow buildup under the tunnel. My temp light would come on this past weekend with plenty of loose snow to keep it cool. I would hit 85 on the RR grade and always back down and this weekend and the last ride last year it would do this. If I slow down to about 35 mph the light will go off and if I go hit 85-90 it will come back on sometimes.

Thanks for the help!

Chris

I had a problem with the plug that connects to the temp sensor on my vmax.... check the wires right where they come out of the plug if they're cracked and worn the high rpm and vibration could be causing a problem.....

what ratio is your coolant mixed??? if your coolant is too diluted it might cause it to run too hot at higher temps/RPM.....

If you haven't installed a rear cooler do so ,,, vipers are prone to overheat,, the system needs to be bled to get all the air out of system also......

What he said, I had a couple of issues with my 03 viper's temp light coming on on long high speed runs or in minimal snow conditions (and the sled was actually running hot) after slowing down or stoping and putting snow on the exchangers it was fine. I installed a rear exchanger from an SRX and have never seen the light again. The vipers should have come with the rear exchangers from the factory!! -Ed

My nephews 02 Viper would do that after he put on a belly skid.It was worse in dirty cold temps and lots of powder. What happened with his was that we had to trim about 2 inches off of the back of the skid. The snow would swirl up in front of the track and build a wall of ice between the track and the exchanger. When the light came on we flipped the sled and saw the ice wall, knocked the ice out and it would go for a while and do it again. The skid almost touched the exchanger when stock. We cut 2 inches off across the back and never had another problem.Yamaha knew about this(or at least our dealer did) as he was the one who told us to trim it.Niether my nephew or I have the rear exchanger installed and his light never came on again(kept it until 05) and mine has only been on once with no snow at all on 9 Mile Lake.

Notorious for that issue. My sled is fine, others i know there light is always coming on and they are pulling over to dip in some powder (no rear heat exchanger). that helps a ton, but i also thing the temp sensors may may not be too robust.

So you guys are saying my 2004 Viper 700s the limited edition model that is black and red didn't come with a rear heat exhanger? I thought it did have a rear heat exhanger?

When I checked under the tunnel a few times it seems like there was a lot of frozen snow and ice built up all under the tunnel.....

Take a look under the rear of the sled behind the snow flap, if it has a round metal tube that goes between the 2 rubber hoses from your side heat exchangers then it don't have a rear heat exchanger. If it has the rear heat exchanger you will see it. -Ed
