I have a srx with 4,000 miles. I was wondering if I should replace the chain, or at what mileage the chain should get replaced. Thanks

If you pull the cover and find some metal shavings in the bottom, or stuck to the drain plug, its well worth the bucks to swap in a new chain. Might as well go for some new gears and clutching while you're at it!hehe
My 500 hosed the stock track at 1800miles, and I swapped it out. At that time, I regeared and changed the chain. I noticed quite a bit of metal in the old oil. Granted, this was a lighter duty 2 row chain, but you've got alot more miles and alot more power going through yours. If you ride hard over rough terrain, it's safer to have a new one in there.
Check it out, let your eyes be the judge, you're might be perfect in there.

Just a thought... A $100 chain is real cheap compared to what it could cost if it breaks and takes out the chain case. It's also the only link between the track and the brake... you do the math! I replaced mine this year, figured one ruined weekend would cost a lot more than the chain.

Hey John! GF is doing fine... much better than the EW. Do you got riding plans for the time between Christmas and New Years and the weekend right after?

i have 4200 miles on my 01 srx and the chain broke on the last ride of the season last year cracked the case too take a look at it and make sure you keep up on your tension or you can just replace the chain and keep up on the tension

Replacing the chain is cheap insurance. If you want to check your chain there is a spec in the service manual for the amount of stretch. Every season I find crap in my chain case when I change the gear oil. I always remove the cover when I change it to make sure I get all the old contaminated oil out.
