Mine were dirty too. The two black plugs have a port and a jet that you can take out. Make sure they are in the right spot too. I used paper clip for most of the jets but also used wire from a bread tie for the smaller ones.pure pontiac said:88 phazer bog problems. just bought sled carbs dirty not familiar with them. u know im old school. 3 ports below main jet. cant get air through port without cap. or shouldnt i. is it blocked off from factory?
Also soaked the carb and jets over night. Replaced and bog was gone.

Thank you for the reply. Cleaned carbs twice, still have a bog. When I pop choke it takes off. Only to slow down back to the bog. Wondering about port next to caps. I can't get air through them with the air compressor, is this normal? New to computer so when I can send pictures, I would be happy to send pictures of why I'm pure pontiac. I love their old V8s. Once again thank you for your reply wrxz24. Please reply to this message so I know if I am sending this right. Thank you.wrxz24 said:Mine were dirty too. Your pilot jets are still plugged or the passage is plugged. Remove the pilot jets make sure they are clear, then look in the tube there is a tiny hole that goes from the pilot tube to the bigger middle tube where the main jet sits. This hole is most likely plugged. Take a safety pin and bent the tip about a 1/8 long and run it back and forth through the passage. The passage is hard to see but it is there and will cause a bog up to 1/4 to 1/3 throttle when plugged. Did you remove the pilots and run a very small wire through them to make sure they are clear? If not, remove them and do that and run a pin through the passage and it will run good.

I had the same problems. Had the carbs apart many times before I got it fixed. Finally ended up running a piece of wire (took one strand out of an electrical wire) through the air passages in there, anywhere I thought there might be a hole, and it fixed the problem. Ran great after that.
