Just picked up My 1st Sled , 2005 SX Viper Mountain . Never owed a Sled before. So Sorry for the lameass Oil Question ...
Is it ok to just add Synthetic (shell) .I bought a 4l jug @ CTC .
I dont really know what is in there now ??? Its Green ...
The Shell oil is Blue ...
Is it ok to mix these oils??? I drew some oil out of the sled & mixed it with the New Shell oil in a jar .... seemed to mix ....
What is the best thing for me to do ???
Sorry for the Rookie ????

Don't really know what to tell you on the oil part. But I hope you enjoy the 05 Viper Mtn. We bought 2 of them brand new back in 07. Awesome sleds with the Pro Mountain suspension.

i personally have never found an issue with mixing oils but that doesnt mean there isnt one.
They will mix fine. But what I'd personally do is run your current (green you said) oil down in the reservior as low as you feel comfortable doing before adding your Shell oil, and let it go low for the next few times before adding more oil into the reservior and you will eventually end up with hardly any of the old oil in there.
Sometimes Yamalube has a greenish tint, that's prob what's in there now. Or if it's really lime green it's prob that crappy Arctic Cat oil. Stuff looks like alien slime, Lol!

Good idea to run synthetic, the cheap oil gums up yer power valves. Everything you need to know about that sled is in the tech faq area, and/or by searching previous posts - welcome to a great site. I have been given great advice here and have saved lots of money.
