I got 03 viper mtn. with 144 X 2.25 track. When I realy get on the gas the track slips. I got it as tight as I can and with the sled off the ground there is about 3/4 inch between the hy-fax and the track. I checked the front cogs and they were good, bearings are all good. looked in the gear case the chain was tight and the gears look good. the drivebelt and clutch looks good what else should i be checking.

Are the lugs too long and catching on the front cooler and hanging up? I once considered a 2.25" lug track and was told it could catch on the front cooler, and not to go longer than 2".

If that is happening, it could be stopping the track, causing a sort of ratcheting condition.

There is room in the front for the track. I rode fine last weekend something happend. Could it be the rear shock?

Yes all conditions are the same just took out the rear and center shock they both seem to be good. I'm lost on this one

I don't know if this is your problem but with my bros. viper when he went to a bigger track it seemed to skip under load (deep snow). It took a full season to figure out the it was the belt chattering. we found it by changing belts to different brands and it would change the amount skipping. We wound the secondary 20 degrees tighter and the problem is finally fixed.

just put a brand new yamaha drive belt on.....and it still did it.

never adjusted clutches much could you give me a hint as to what you did to wind it tighter?

Remove the secondary from the sled. Take the three nuts off of the cam (be carefull it is spring loaded). Check to see wich holes the spring is in add the numbers and multiply by ten to get your degrees. Put it back together with another 10 degrees wrap and try it. My bros. was at 2 and 3=50 degrees. we wound his to 6 and 1=70 degrees. Hope this helps
