I did some searching with no luck, but what would be the "instructions" for installing a stock can on an SRX?

Can I leave the pipes attached at the block and just swap them out or is it a full removal process?

Also, is there any seals or gaskets that would need replacing or can I just swap it in?

I have never done this before so a little guidance and any tips/tricks would be great and save me from turning probably an extremely easy task into one heck of a headache.

Thanks,
Steve

If you are un-experienced it is best to remove the pipes so you don't damage the over priced exhaust gaskets. If the gaskets are in good shape you can reuse them. If not, some people build them up a little with high temp copper rtv, although that will only buy you a season. Not much to it really, only one bolt and a bunch of springs. Use a length of rope to remove the springs, makes it extra easy.

SRX exhaust install - questions

After removing the bolt in the hood latch, I was able to get enough "give" on the exhaust side to safely remove the old exhaust and install a factory can. Everything went fine until I went to hook up the clutch side pipe.
I have tried to adjust the muffler and wiggle the pipe and I just can't seem to get it to go into the exhaust port. I did not remove the pipes as I was able to create enough room and still not damage the gaskets if that makes any difference.

Are there parts I am missing or does anyone have any ideas. I took two photos of what I am running into. One is of all three and the other one is of the pipe I am having issues with. This process seemed to go to "easy" for me to believe. This "issue" is more right up my alley of luck....

If more parts are needed, I'll swap back the other exhaust for the time being but if it is a matter of just a wiggle and a tug....I'd love to finish up the process.
:o| :o| and there was a few of these..... #$%&* #$%&* and yes......I did follow the cardinal rule of having a beer cracked too.....

The donor "can" came off a 99 SRX 600 which should be the same for the 98 SRX 600.

not sure if the 99 exhaust pipe ends are adjustable like mine on the 02's.By the looks of your pipes yours don't have the adjustable ends,..so you can't slide the fitting out more. You may have to get a 98 can instead of the 99. I would think..or change all your pipoes to the newer version(which you don't wanna hear at this point)I'll check the parts fiche.

I took a quick look at a parts list on my local yamaha dealers parts fiche, and it looks as though the 98 exhaust part # is an 8DF-14640-00-00 and a 99 is part # 8DF-14640-10-00.

Initial reaction is #$%&* ...... I bet that "10" makes the difference. I should have looked before buying the darn thing!!!!!!

better crack open another dozen beer..YOU won't like what I have to tell you...

The 98 and 99 cans are 2 different cans..part numbers are different.
The exhaust pipes of the 98 don't have sliding silencer joints.1999 and up the exhaust pipes have adjustable silencer joints that can be loosened and the joints can be slide back or advanced ahead into the can joint. You will have to get a #$%&* 1998 Can..part # 8DF-14640-00-00.

The 99 can # is 8DF-14640-10-00..

2 options..sell that can and get a 98 can

OR

sell them 98 pipes and get 99 and up pipes....

finished them beers already

GOOD

my choice is the Can has to go or extend the end by cutting a section and adding..but that is silly....

This is all I can tell you unless someone has a pipe stretcher they could lend you

SORRY

FOR

THE

NEWS
