Hello all,
I have a 2001 Yammie SXR 700 with the double headlight. the issue is that when the machine starts, the low beam works and the tach flutters ever so slightly. when you hit the high beam, the light goes out and the machine dies. I took the harness apart and there was no evidence of exposed or chafed wires. However, the connector under the handlebar padding only has a green and blue wire with a white stripe coming from the headlight and the other end has a yellow, green and the blue with white stripe. Further, the yellow wire for the headlight goes all the way through and looks like goes right to the relay(blue). When I insert a yellow wire (with flat connector) into the connector and run it directly to the headlight, I get a high and low beam out of the one light but if I connect the second light, I have the same issue again. Note that the machine has two bright white aftermarket lights. Is that the culprit----too much draw to run two of them???? Is it a relay issue ?????? If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

If it started right after you installed the new bulbs, I'd say that's for sure your issue. Ever do this b4 the bulbs went in? Are they 55w/100 bulbs?

Some of these bulbs really draw a lot of power and your stator prob can't keep up. You could begin your stator's path to a slow death by overworking it, also.....

I just recently bought the sled so I cannot tell you the answer to those questions. I appreciate your efforts to help me!!!

Try putting regular bulbs (H4/9003 from Wally World or any auto parts supply) back in. Try 35w bulbs (Hi/Low's) for starters and see if that works.

Thanks SuperSled, I will wander out to the shop shortly and pull the lights to see what type they are.

If that doesn't work Super, any other suggestions?? By the way, thanks for the direction!!!!!

Well I'm no electrical guru, but it sounds like your stator is not keeping up. If this occurs with normal lamps, then I'd test your stator's output.

Fair enough...I'll look into that.....Thanks alot!!!!! I might not be able to do it till tomorrow afternoon but I will post a thread after I try your advice. Thanks again!

You could try unplugging one light and see if the Hi/low works on the other. That would tell you the highs are too high a wattage for the Stator and if the wiring is okay. Repeat for both sides to confirm the wiring.
