hey guys theres so dam many people posting on here right now i just figured i'd start a new thread so i could get some imput from people my machine is slipping and at a idle it squeals could the belt be shot? ive heard about shimming it what are those and do they wear out? motor mounts are good the secondary has a hauck type x helix with a red spring and is running the recommend 9-1 wrap thinking about taking it to a dealer and making sure every thing is aligned i swear every other day it slips like this thanks guys

im not at home right now other wise i would send the numbers off the belt on here i think my spare and the orginal have the same numbers theres no way to adjust them is there?
my secondary spring was just replaced last winter because i broke one the belt i think was the spare and i think it was a new one im going to get a new belt and see if that fixes it ive been told to go with genuine yamaha

if its squealing, the belt is too tight. take off the secondary, on the back there is 3 screws. take them out and remove a washer if there is any behind there, and put screws back in. that should loosen your belt a bit and stop the squeel

awsome the picture helps alot thanks a bunch guys when i get home from college this weekend and keep ya updated could this have anything to do with the slipping??

if im going across the feild on the thing i can gun it it will rev up to like 8 thousand rpms after riddin it around for a while it seems to start grabbing and it doesnt rev up so high and engages properly

he mentioned it squeals at idle so i would also think that it's just the tension on belt that he needs worry about. like mentioned above if no shims are present on the back of the secondary under the 3-8mm bolts then your center to center is off. your belt should just sit approx. 1/8" above the secondary when it is fully closed or sitting at idle. ;)!

I had a similar issue with mine. I ended up having to replace the three bolts in the rear of the secondary. The old ones had worn and wouldn't hold the sheaves open far enough. I also put a new OEM belt in. I still have a very quiet occasional whine at idle but I am told that is normal for a new belt until it settles in. Only had 3000 miles on the original bolts so they do wear quickly. I have 50 miles on the new belt and the whine seems almost gone.

and your not spinning?

i'm questioning this because IF you have a idle squeal that means your belt deflection is to tight and if it's too tight causing that it should not be slipping during operation,is everything ok in secondary?
