I studded my 03 viper last year. I have noticed that when bottoming out the studs are starting to wear down the fins on the rear heat exchanger. Apparently the tunnel protector is insufficient to protect the rear exchanger. Does anyone have a pic of what the rear protectors should look like? I believe I have 1 inch studs on the original track.

When I put my 121 M10 in my Viper, the studs hit my heat exchanger on the first ride. I had to stiffen the skid up to prevent it happening again.
I would also love to see how others protect their rear heat exchanger. I was thinking of a rear drop bracket, but then the M10 already raised the rear by a good 4", and I don't want it any higher.....

Happened on my srx too with the viper susp. Studs are probably just a hair too long but if it just hits the fins I don;t think it will ever cause a leak. I actually shimmed the protectors down 3/16 or so more and they still nick the exchanger.

Yamaha made em for the SRX's, which are the same rear heat exchangers as the updated Vipers

You know, protectors are very easy to make. I use 1" square alum, the rear cooler on the Viper is a curved unit. You will have to heat and bent the alum to fit the contour. Once the contour is correct, use aluma-weld to braze the tube to the cooler fins. I made a pair for my son's Viper in less than 1hr. Al

X2 - I run the track a little tighter than I normally would but getting home without a green trail is more important than a MPH or two - IMO. Agreed that the nicking was minimul but I didn't want to risk it.
Gettin' old I guess.
I like Al's suggestion about making your own and brazing them. That aluma-weld stuff holds up real well and is so easy to use.
