Had my SX700R out for the first time today. Disassembled and cleaned the carbs over the weekend. Ran great for the 1st 40 miles, and then I started to notice it felt weird at low throttle 4000-4500rpm. Sounded strange, quieter, maybe slightly down on power, but I could blip the throttle or get on it and it would take right off, seemingly like normal. Had to make it 10-15 miles back to the trailer. In the parking lot, noticed the idle was now low, ~1000rpm instead of closer to 2000rpm. Got home, ate dinner, went back out and it fired right up like normal, but then idled low again. Put it in the garage, pulled the plugs in looked through the holes, can't really see much but I didn't see any carnage. Coolant in overflow was at same level, oil consumption looked to be normal as well.

Can’t dig into it until tomorrow night, and I have a ride planned for Friday with friends. Figure the 1st thing I would do is take the carbs back off and see if they got plugged up w/ any crap, give them a thorough cleaning again. Any suggestions? Does this sound like anything other than dirty carbs?

Just to be safe i would clean carbs again. Then make sure your idle is set correct 1600 +/- 100, then adjust throttle cable for 2mm of freeplay. Should be good from their. I bet you sucked up some loose stuff from first cleaning. Chris

I also agree to going through the carbs again. Like stated something in the line, etc may have been picked up. I've been in your situation before and it does suck having to clean them again. But this is usually the problem.

Got into the carbs after work today, some small globs of white junk in 2 of the bowls. 2 pilots gunked, 1 main partially blocked. Screens were 99% clean, one of the orifices (orifi?) the screen goes on was also blocked up.

Anyway, started back up, sounded great, idled right at ~1700. Blip the throttle, comes right back down (was hanging last night after it started acting up).

Never had this happen after a carb cleaning before. Stuff in the line? or do I have to do a full tank drain and clean? That sounds like a PITA. I'm going riding again tomorrow AM, hopefully I don't have to cut my ride short.

I was planning to do a leak down test, but after I found the condition of the carbs and then it started and idled just as it should I'm skipping for now. Maybe Sat or Sun I'll dig back into for a leak down test.
