Well I found out my issue with my low end bog.
Burned the side on top of the piston mag cylinder on my 98 VMax Triple, ring is showing through, looks like oil was spraying out the side from either between cylinder head and the cylinder? (blown head gasket too?)
So the mechanic is going tear apart and take a look, says if any chrome was shaved off the whole cylinder will have to be replaced.
Any advice on what to do if its just a piston and especially what to do if the chrome is damaged?
I'm a newb so appreciate any help.

if the cylinder is damaged, someone should have good one for sale here on the site, in fact you should be able to find a good piston too. that would be cheaper than buying brand new.

Like said if the cyl is junk look for good used here or try ebay,if just piston price around for new OEM, but most important you need to find out why this happed so it don't do it again.
Thanks guys..I looked at that website that shows all types of piston burndowns with 2 strokes, and it looked most like the one with the "chipped" crown on one side, which that website was consistent with a blown head gasket.
The engine compartment looked like oild had spit out from between the cylinder head and cylinder body, which seems to be consistent with blown head gasket.
BUT, mechanic who is recommended by my snowmobile club has a 700 triple and says he has worked on plenty said he has never seen a blown head gasket on one..
I am about $1500 over budget on Year 1 of "Lets get snowmobiles" and wife is getting p*ssed every time I blow another few hundred on this so hoping for an inexpensive but reliable repair because it is her sled...

Some times you'll loose one that's been peeled(single layer) but if this one is stock yet yea un heard of really.
yea this can be an expensive hobby thats why maintenance is of the up most importance.
