So the engine in my 98srx blew on me last weekend and with baby number 2 on the way I don't really want to spend the money on it to fix it. I have a couple guys locally that are interested in buying it off me, what do you guys think would be a reasonable price for a 98srx 700 with about 6k on it. I have also thought about parting it out but don't really have the time to do it all with a kid on the way and a nursery to remodel.

the middle cylinder is toast I pulled the powervalves and there are huge pieces of the piston missing. I was riding down the trail in a group of about 8 or 9 we were all moving at a pretty good clip and all of a sudden it started to backfire and I lost all of my power. pulled my plugs hoping that i fouled on of them and that is when i noticed the plug for the middle cylinder was completely closed with no gap at all that is when i new it was done.

If I were you, I would put it away until the summer and start working on it then. Used parts can be cheap to fix that. Don't be discouraged. It's easier to fix than you think.

I now it is easy to fix and all the parts won't be to bad price wise, but also sits in the back of my mind why did it blow up with only 6k on these sleds normally go for 10 or 11k I took good care of it cleaned the PV's and carbs. I just don't want to rebuild it and have it blow again plus the wife said if i sell it or part it I can but a new sled in the fall. The srx isn't really my style sled I love the power and the pull the sled has but not the suspension.

where I live a 1998 with 6000 miles and possibly a completely junk motor you would be very VERY LUCKY to get $1000 out of it probably more like $750

If there are huge pieces of the piston missing it probably took out more than just the center cylinder.

Guy that owns business (Kevin) has 1 1998 SRX with bad stator. 151 track with Viper skid and aftermarket tunnel. Said he would sell whole sled for 850.00 I almost bought it to put top end and pipes on my Viper. Oh, he also has remnants of a Viper.
