Open chain case

Has any one heard of running without a chain case cover? I've heard guys grass dragging do this. Just wondering if with sealed bearings in the backside of case if possible for winter trail riding.

If the trail's short. The chain & gears would get hot & wear down without oil. Grass draggers run with open cover so they can make quick gear swaps.

Reminds me of the "Ported Chaincase" saga on Snowest a few years back . . . LOL
