I am new to the whole snowmobile thing, I am having trouble with my 1996 Vmax Mountain Max 600. I don't have many hours in the mechanics of snowmobiles but I do understand their principals and I am very mechanically inclined but I am afraid of shooting in the dark on this costing me extra money and guess work. It is just easier to poll the pro's and go from there.
Ok my deal is my Vmax MM will not go over 20mph. it only revs to about 6000 rpm and never really goes faster than 20. Sometimes it will kick in and get up to about 40mph but that is it. Then after you try to stop it is trying to keep moving slowly and if you hit the brake it will die. I done the obvious and changed the belt with a brand new one. I am not sure how to adjust any of the clutches. Every now and then it will make a sqeeling sound also. It just dont seem like it tries to go. It has a comet Primary clutch on it. I am really not sure and am afraid to drop big bucks on a primary replacement guess. My wife has a 1995 Vmax and it blows the doors of this one. Easily getting to 90mph.
It just don't feel right to me, and I am used to building hot rods, not working on 2 cycles with primary and secondary clutches but I want to learn
Please help me fellas, shoot me some Ideas
Thanks Steve

Maybe pull the clutches apart and make sure everything is good...rollers, spider, buttons, bushings, helix, etc, then see if the throttle over ride is kicking in. Use the search function on this site. This is by far the best site for troubleshooting. Almost every know issue with any Yamaha sled has been covered on here in some fashion or another.
If you can't find you're answer after searching, then I am sure someone will be able to help!

I would focus on the primary clutch since it sounds like it's not engaging properly. You say the sled dies once it stops. Does the engine stop running? Or are you referring to something else?
the engine will actually stall when you stop. I am in the process of getting a new primary now
Ok
I got around to looking into it and I am not sure I like what I see.
The motor will still not rev up to more than 4000 rpm. I have the TORS disabled, I was watching the Comet clutch and noticed alot of gas/oil running out the exhaust pipe. I got a pic of what I am talking about to show you guys. It will drip about 3 times every 10 sec. I have no Idea!! If anybody know please help me before I decide to just drop a match to it....

Looks To Me Like The Needle Valves Are Stuck Causing Raw Fuel To Dump Into The Cylinders. Clean Carbs And Replace Needle Valves If They Are Corroded.
