How many Km's/Miles till rebuild? srx

Ok I've got 11500 km's(7200miles) on my srx and it still runs and starts perfect. I havn't checked compression but how long do these pistons actually go before they are worn?

In my CR250 motocross bike I change a piston twice a year and it always mic's atleast .001 smaller across the skirt than a new one.

Should I be doing a top end next fall or wait until around 15000km's(9400miles)???

I have seen some with 17,000 miles and no rebuilds. Check compression and look after it.

IMO - there is no amount of testing (leakdown or compression) that'll tell you piston to cylinder clearances so the obvious answer is to pull it apart.

As for how long you can go - from what I've read here some are going 8K-10K or longer and finding pistons in spec, OTOH some are finding worn pistons at 5K-6K. Not much of a definitive answer but if I were you I'd probably tear it down this off season.
 
I have my viper apart with a tad over 9k miles and I still have the crosshatch pattern on the cylinder walls. everything up top looks great, think it was a bearing that is giving me a headache. personally, I wouldnt be all that worried. if you take care of them, warming them up properly and dont store them outside under a tarp you should be relatively problem free. my $.02, for whatever thats worth
 
I had 23,500 kms (14,700 miles) when I first opened mine up to re-ring. there was blowby, so it was time, but pistons and cylinders were still fine.

I thought there some here that had outragous miles... and still found the pistons in spec.
 
Ya I am not too worried about failure but I am wanting to know if guys are finding the pistons actually IN tolerance when measured. They will run fine still but with more wear on the skirts and cylinder if too much clearance.
