I am looking for a second sled and my dealer has a red 2004 Venom with 3900 miles on it, electric start, reverse, spare belt, and heated shield plug-in. Sled is in basically perfect condition with no scratches. Slides and carbides in good shape. He wants $4000....too much...but I want to know what is good price to pay for this sled.

Thanks.

P.S. Any comments you have about this sled, please share. My first sled was a 2002 SXR600 so I am familiar with the machine.

Thanks...but I am in NY. No trail permits here except in Old Forge. What do you think this sled is worth in USD? BTW it was owned by a female who had all the service done at this dealership and I am sure it was ridden gently.

Dude. Almost every used sled I have ever looked at the seller will try to "sweeten" the deal with a comment like that. Not saying it's not true but that statement should have nothing to do with your decision.

AUGDOG - I agree! Heard that line and others many times. However, it wasn't a sales pitch...he was telling me who owned it and what they traded it in for. Plus, given the almost perfect condition it is in, I don't care who owned it...it has been well-cared for and ridden gently.

My Brother has a sled exactly like the one you're asking about, and its been a good sled. It gets good mileage and he doesn't really have a problem keeping up with my Viper. He hasn't had any issues with it but his only has 2500 miles on it.

As for the price that seems a bit steep, I found one on craigslist in Salem NH for 3400 with 2181 miles on it, but thats not at a dealer, it does have a lot of accessories on it. I'd check around to see what others are asking for sleds in similar condition and then if you want it make an offer. The worst they will do is tell you they can't go that low ;)! .

If you could have him eat the salestax and put it in your name with a trail pass for 4.Maybie!

Even better, if he ate the 4 grand, or at least the difference of what the sled is worth and the 4k

In 2007, I bought a red '04 SX600 Venom with electric start, reverse, mirrors from a private owner. The sled had 1400 miles and was in excellent condition.
I paid $3400. I think he was asking $3900 but we settled on $3400. Bought this one for my wife, it is a great sled.

bco2jco - It is easy to ride for your wife? How about inexperienced riders? This was my first sled (SXR600) but I dont remember how it felt to ride it so many years ago as a new rider. I remember it not steering very well...probably due to the Yamaha skis. Half the time this sled will be ridden by my girlfriend (0 miles experience), her 14 year old son, my father (some experience), other friends with limited experience. Is it a good match?

Thanks for the info on the price. My offer of $2800 seems to be fair.

I rode a 2001 Polaris XC Edge 500 yesterday and it was SO EASY to ride for a beginner. But I would rather have a Yamaha due to being close to a great dealer with every part in the world in stock, great service, etc. Plus the Yammie is bulletproof. I am also considering a cheap REV to ride around here...an area which can get bumpy...but I am hesitant because a REV is not a good sled for inexperienced riders.
