So I'm in the process of retro fitting a 136" track and skid from a 1994 Venture into a mid-80's Excel III. Everything thing is looking good except it looks like the drive cogs on the Excel will not work on the Venture track.
The excel pitch is significantly larger, I want to say about 3 1/4" and drives with every other tooth, and the Venture track pitch is maybe about an inch smaller.
So will the drive cogs out of a venture fit onto the square profile drive shaft of the Excel? Anyone have a set of used venture cogs cheap around southern Maine?

Begin with measure the diameter of the old drive sprockets from the Excel III.
This to determine which size you shuold have on the new drive sprockets.

The track from the 1994 Venture has 2,52" pitch.
So you will also be needing drive sprockets with 2,52" pitch between the cogs.

The size of drive sprockets with 2,52" pitch is as follows :

2,52" :
7-Cogs = ~5.50" Diameter
8-Cogs = ~6.25" Diameter
9-Cogs = ~7.05" Diameter
10-cogs = ~7.85" Diameter

.

so i want to match the diameter of my excell drive sprockets, and this will determine the amount of teeth if I understand you correctly?
