How do you guys get steel clutch rivets to stay in place? Someone told me to crush them in a bench vice, but that isn't doing it. All I did was end up bending the handle on my vice... nothing happened to the rivets!

Use a ball peen hammer and beat them down a bit with the flat side of the hammer first and finish peening it over with the round side.Make sure they're squished enough to clear in the spider.

I use a rivet gun used for bucking rivets on aicraft and boats, works like a champ.

i use either a ball peen hammer, or a punch, or a vise. all methods have worked for me and never had a rivet come loose.
