98 venture 600 i smell burning belt on engagement untill i get rolling then it seems to go away. On the primary i see black from the belt on both sheaves at the bottom where engagement is. Also it seems to not want to up shift untill i hit somewhere around 6500rpm. Primary has 8CA with somewhere around 5.5g in back hole with a total of around 48.5g with a orange pink orange and brown wrapped at 60 in secondary. I tryed different secondary (red, and green) still can get away from the burning belt with either new or old belt. Also the clutch alignment is good so any idea's would be great!! Thanks.

Primary spring weak, grooved weights/rollers, spider bushings worn out, belt worn under spec, dirty clutches.

The primary spring is brand new ,clutches cleaned and inspected bushings, weights, rollers all passed inspection. Belt brand new 89L also installed my old belt and same results.

motor mounts????

this is what happend to me,may not be common,i put a brand new belt on my xt and some weird stuff started happening
oe 89L would over rev and squeal on engagement but after the sled was moving every thing was fine, checked clutches, all the stuff in the primary was
new this summer, pulled secondary apart, found nothing wrong, even ordered
a new spring, found this by accident,i put my foot in the foot well and just
happened to be looking toward the belt and saw the deflection change when i
put weight on the sled, the rear motor mount on pto side was seperated,so
when i took off the belt would over tighten in the secondary and force the sheaves apart right form a stop, just someting to check, grab your primary and pull up on it see if your motor moves and the belt gets tight
