I have a 87 Exciter with the Mikuni Round Slide Carbs. Stock Jets and exhaust. TORS is bypassed. Power Jet hose has the BB in it so I assume it is disabled. I have the long vent hoses on the carbs. Basically I have all the recalls. The clutch side plug looks like it should nice brown color. The Water pump side plug is bright WHITE. I have been through the carbs twice and cannot find anything wrong. Both are set the same as far as I can tell. Oil Pump pumps oil both sides.

Any ideas?

Thanks Mike

crank seal, base gasket, carb boot, sounds to me youre suckin air an leanin way out or arent getting gas to it were they new an u only rode a litle while

you might also want to check around the boots, if there was a small cut on the intake it could lean it out a lot. maybe even on the airbox side, if one was ripped it would be pulling more air.

Plugs were new with about 20 miles on them. I suspected the boots as well and did not see any rips or tears in them when I inspected them.

New wrinkle developed last night. I was riding it testing some things. Engine would rev up, clutch engage and then I would sit. Would not move. I finally figured out the Water pump side plug was not firing. Switched plugs same problem. Let it sit for awhile it started firing again. Need to check the coil resistance next. It failed in a field and did not have a meter.

Got to thinking after my last post. I only disconnected the Spark Plug caps when I tested to see what cylinder it was running on. I did not pull the plug and look to see if it sparked. Dumb mistake on my part. Is it possible for this coil design to fail so only 1 plug would fire?

Shaft Seal - I looked at the parts diagram. I only see a Labryinth Seal on the crank. If that was bad wouldn't both cylinders be affected?

i worked on a buddys polaris last weekend. only ran on 1 cylinder. i cleaned the carbs, still nothing. pulled one plug wire an it ran on 1 cylinder still. put it on an pull the other one off and it fires that one...long story short i was about to buy a coil, and threw new plugs in for the heck of it, gaped to spec. ran great. make sure ur positive your plugs are fine before you look at the coil
