Ok a friend bought a "trail ported by hauck" 98 srx. We only rode it for very short blasts so shift out and max rpms still uknown. What I do know is it has 8dn00 with 4.5 in both holes maxx red primary spring with 2 shims a maxx helix at 52/40 and stock secondary spring(red) wrapped at 60.
#1 engagment was over 5k and belt was slipping bad so I had my old viper y-w-y laying around so we installed that with the shims. Engagment is now 4200 much better but prolly gonna remove the shims.
#2 Also replaced the secondary spring with my almost new take off from viper also red.
#3 Is there anything else obvious to you TY users? Like one of these components are just not suitable.
#4 I know sleds vary and will be doing some testing and tuning soon just wanted to post before so I could have a little more knowledge beforehand.
One last thing shouldnt a ported srx pull more wieght?

Also he paid 2k it has 4900 miles an m-10 ohlins and "ported" with 1'1/4 ripsaw thats pretty new. The guy knew all the right answers as far as storing it for summer. Its my friends first sled and he relied on me to pretty much pick it. How do you guys think I did?

Would you want to sell that maxx red spring that you took outta there?
I dont see why not seems like a race spring. I will ask him later today but im sure he has no use for it.

Guess this setup is perfect. And nobody has a ported srx and can say whether or not it should pull more weight.

I have A stock 98...Im using 89a-10s with 3.1and 2.4 in the tip... red @ 70 and a 50/42 helix... and i pull that much weight just fine...sled pulls and pulls and pulls... great set-up for me thanks Josh..

no problem curt, but aren't you using a maxx perf 52/40 helix? those are aggressive cuts like bender and measure what they are stamped, within 1deg.

captnviper, that seems like not enough weight. you have a finish of 40deg, and 2 engagement shims in there, that thing must spin 9000rpm, if its ported right.

sorry Josh I thought he said he had a maxx 52/40 helix like mine..oops i see it now i typed in the wrong numbers....duh

Well if engine is running properly, carbs clean valves in properly working order and so on,,,,,, did you install a new cleaned belt or at least check the old one to be in good shape?? Always start with the main driving components...........

The belt is brand new. We will be taking it out this weekend as we live in the city hard to test. I thought that didnt sound like enough weight so either the guy bs'd us or its gonna over rev bad. thanks for the input. i will post back with rpm's.

i dont know what those weights way but my 2000 srx 700 ported swings about 68 grams heavy hitters, dalton blue primary, green @ 70, 56/40 helix.

thanks madzx2 thats the kinda stuff i was wondering about. The totall weight of these is 53.35! :o
