I bought a 06 APEX and 98 SRX 700 the other day. The SRX seems to suck the fuel down and oil too. It seems to only get around 5-60 miles per fill. Is this normal?
Thanks!

aaah no , its not normal, you should get 12-13mpg no problem unless its wide open and run in wet heavy snow all the time. I would look at the carbs, clean them and verify the correct jetting. Take a look at oilpump cable adjustment if its also using alot of oil.

The sled was run pretty hard most of the time. My buddy and I were on mostly groomed trails and he was hammering to keep up with my APEX. Seems to use almost a quart of oil every 2 tank fulls.

You need to measure your oil consumption based on gallons of fuel used. A 50:1 ratio should equate to 1 quart of oil every 12.5 gallons. So if you burned 2 full tanks of gas (i.e. approx 20 gallons) you are running a lean on the oil. Need to check the oil cable adjustment.

I've never seen more than 10 mpg and as low as 8 mpg. That's agressive tight bush trails with some wide open fireguard in between. Also I ended up at about 16mm on the oil cable adjustment to get close to 50:1.At 20mm the mix was almost 90:1(close to where you're at)but ran fine like this for a year on cheapo oil.If I hadn't checked it I would still be running it like that.I use Optimol in my chainsaws and big bore dirtbikes at 100:1.Lots of miles/hours no problem.I may switch to full syn on the sled and put the oil cable back to 20mm but the full syn is so damn expensive.

On the weekend I probably was getting around 10mpg..running hard all the time.BM2;s XTC with the triple pipes is sucking way more fuel then me and his buddy on a 2002 MXZ700 sucks twice as much as us with the twin motor..go figure.

I get about 50 miles per 1/4 so about 16 mpg.

Mine has never really been better than 11 mpg even when I take it easy. Lately it was 9. For oil, I use 1 litre for 70 litres of gas, so 70:1 ratio. I've never checked the cable adjustment.

finally a honest mpg statement, instead of hearing that you get 14mpg w/ported--clutched--geared sled.

checked mine 3 different times this season, got 13.5 twice (riding with the wife) and 12 even once riding with the guys. mine is a 98 with the loaded 8dn20 set up 144 studs, otherwise bone stock.

Ya took me 25 litres to fill back up I think You only took 20. I rember you saying 4 gallons or something. Not too bad but running way too rich that day.

I need to update my previous post. I got between 14 and 16 mpg on the weekend after replacing the carbs, and it was jetted richer than normal. If your sled has a lot of mileage, there could be some wear in the carbs.

I usually get between 12 and 15 mpg. On my last trip my son logged 785 miles in 3.5 days, the SRX got about 13 MPG. It was slightly worse than my RX1. The trails had lots of fresh, loose snow on them. On hard pack trails where we can cruise at 50 -60 MPH, I routinely get 15 MPG. The sled is a completely stock 2000 SRX with the stock 2000 jetting. For me the SRX gets terrific gas mileage considering the excellent fun factor.
