We're slated to stay in Trout Lake but I'm worried about snow conditions. Where will there be rideable snow within reason of Trout Lake? We may have to make some cancellations on the house and take hotel rooms. Thanks for the help guys.
Grand Marais. Closer to Superior shoreline will have more snow

X2 - the Superior shoreline usually has the last/better snow but no promises. My bud is up in Brimley (and may even be sitting near Trout lake as we speek). I'll text him to get a report.

Thanks Sno! Looks like they have to hold on for a couple days. Chance of some snow according to JohnDee. Hope he's right.

I know Larry at the wolf inn south of Pine Stump has a real nice bunk house next to his restaurant. I think it sleeps 10 comfortably...could possibly get 2 more guys in there if you had air mattresses. I was in there once, nice place, real clean. Only drawback is no stove for cooking, but there is a fridge to keep adult sodas cold. Google or yahoo redz wolf inn...

We've ate at Redz and checked out the bunkhouse. If they had just made the "commons" area a little bigger so you could hang/play cards, etc it would be great. Of course it encourages you to walk the 200' to the bar.....

I'm sure that was his intention. Why eat where you sleep when you can spend an extra $20 a night on food next door right? As for the snow in Trout Lake, I was thru there on thursday, windshield survey said the snow was very thin and snirty. Supposed to warm here this week, so I'm sure it would be less than desirable. Go north of M-28 somewhere. Paradise, Pine Stump, Grand Marais, Munising. Even right here in Newberry will be sketchy I'm sure by the end of this week.

Yeah, so many trail reports are "suspect" . I'll call Thursday to the place we're renting. She should hopefully be honest as we're repeat clients. I wanted to do another hours drive and get closer to Munising but now most of the places I had in that area are already booked for this number of guys, it's not easy.

I'm hoping they get the snow in John Dee's forecast. I do not want to cancel this trip. My sled will have basically sat for a year if I don't go. My BIL was flying in tomorrow from AZ for the trip.

Good Luck C. We are still a go, but it's pending snow. My place is going to let me cancel whenever. That's nice of her. If we don't go cause of no snow, it's not like she's going to be able to fill it.

We ended up cancelling after so much changing of venue, attendees, etc. Heck I have more snow at my house right now than they have up north. That's so messed up.

Just got back today. Rode all day monday from munising to G.M. Trails were very good till late at night. Trail 8 back from beartrap was a killer, but it always is. No grooming to be done for a while i guess. They said they need more snow. Off trail was marginal at best, all hardpack and ice. So to sum it up we put on 160mi of great riding monday and now their is nothing left. The only trail in all of michigan left as far as we heard. All other trails were grass or blown out. So if you are planing a trip do your homework first. They need snow bad. I have more in my yard here in saginaw then they do in munising. I almost choked on my breakfast in the diner at munising when i read the fishweb report for today. It said trails are good, grooming twice a day and great snow. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I am thankful we went but only got one good day of riding in then another 7hrs home. Pray for snow guys or this season is over for sure. Chris

Munising and GM were our "backup" plans, even had a line on a couple places to stay. Then we weighed the extra drives, the lack of snow and a couple calls to some people who don't do the trail reports and it sealed the deal.

Anytime anyone wants an un-biased trail/snow report, I would be more than happy to go take a look around the Newberry area. I live in McMillan and am within spitting distance of a lot of the trails/trailheads and frequently drive by many of them during work hours. I'm glad you didn't waste your time and money. I don't typically ride the trails myself, but I do use them once in a while getting to good off-trail areas North of Newberry and Seney. That being said, my sled has been sitting for a few weeks now, except for a trip to Ontario ice fishing this past weekend. Praying for more snow.....

I rode some nice trail in the LP Monday. Fresh 10-12" No way we should have more snow than the UP

That guy seems to have a problem with the truth. I wonder if he runs his business the same way.
